Since 2004, Saarschaum® GmbH & Co. KG has been a successful company in the field of foams and accessories. Our customer produces affordable custom-cut foam for private and business customers. These bespoke products are used as seating and sleeping surfaces in motorhomes, boats, trucks and many other applications. Saarschaum also sells standard products marketed under the registered trademarks Saarschaum®, Safomed® and V-Power®.
The challenge
Mildew stains on pallet furniture
Euro pallets have long been more than just a transport aid. They are a popular base for furniture and are turned into balcony lounges, bed frames or coffee tables in many homes. No wonder: pallets are cheap and reflect the popular minimalist lifestyle. Unfortunately, people often forget that they cannot replace the ventilation of a bed frame or a high-quality sofa. Users often discover mildew stains on the cushions or the wood after just a few months. Because pallet cushions lie directly on the hard base, moisture can hardly escape from the underside. It builds up and encourages mould. Outdoor furniture that is also exposed to the weather is particularly affected.
Trapped moisture in the roof tent
Campers and motorhomes are also prone to mould. They are usually designed so that the sleeping cushions are placed either on the table top or directly on the floor of the roof tent when converting for the night. The hard base prevents the moisture from breath and body that collects in the mattress overnight from escaping at the bottom. Over time, moisture builds up and mildew stains form on the sleeping surface. Mould is not only harmful to health, as it can lead to allergies, respiratory problems and skin conditions: the fungi also break down cushions and materials and can mean a considerable loss of value for vehicles.
Our solution
Saarschaum® GmbH & Co. KG came to us with these challenges. Our mesh mattress underlays ventilate mattresses and cushions from below. The 3D spacer fabric creates an air gap between the mattress and its base so that air can circulate between the materials. Moisture can escape and the mattress stays dry in the long term. This helps prevent mould and can help extend the life of mattresses and cushions. Our Airflow mattress underlays also have a cushioning and shock-absorbing effect. On hard sleeping surfaces, they can relieve the back and improve sleeping comfort.
