Checklist for your motorhome holiday
Checklist for your motorhome holiday – how to start your camping adventure stress-free
On a motorhome holiday, you are spontaneous and can flexibly adapt both the route and the duration of your road trip. Nevertheless, you should prepare for your camping adventure before you set off. We have put together a comprehensive checklist for your motorhome holiday to ensure that your vehicle is perfectly equipped and that you don’t forget any important items.
1. Vehicle-Check
To prevent your motorhome from breaking down after the first few kilometres, you should definitely carry out a thorough vehicle check before setting off. Check both the tyre pressure and the condition of the tyres. You should also check the engine oil level, the coolant and the battery. It is also best to make sure that all lights are working and test the brakes. Checking the gas level and the function of the gas system are also part of a comprehensive vehicle check.
2. Motorhome equipment and accessories
You should attach particular importance to having the right equipment and accessories for your camping trip. It is best to prepare a separate checklist for your motorhome holiday. As the options for cooking in a motorhome or camper are often very limited, a barbecue or camping cooker, for example, is an important gadget for travelling. You should also always have comfortable camping chairs and a fold-out table with you. An awning, fly screens for the windows, a water hose and a water canister also belong on the checklist for your camping holiday. We also recommend using a mesh mattress base. This not only ensures sufficient ventilation under your mattress, but also increases your sleeping comfort thanks to the additional padding. We reveal further useful gadgets for your camper in our guide Useful motorhome accessories.
3. Personal items
In addition to your motorhome equipment, some personal items should not be missing on a camping trip. Your checklist for your motorhome holiday should include
- Clothing for different weather conditions
- Toiletries and hygiene products
- Medication
- Sun cream and insect repellent
- Passport, driving licence and insurance documents
- Cash, credit cards and foreign means of payment
- Travel adapter
Of course, your camping trip should be designed primarily for relaxation and fun. So don’t forget card games, books and beach equipment such as an air mattress, snorkel or beach volleyball. A camera or GoPro is also a must on a motorhome holiday.
4. Food and supplies
If you are not planning to spend your motorhome holiday in very remote areas, you will be able to go shopping almost anywhere. It is therefore not necessary to stock up on food for your entire holiday. Nevertheless, you should have some non-perishable food such as pasta, rice and tinned food with you in case of an emergency. You can also equip your motorhome with spices and other basic ingredients for cooking in advance. For coffee lovers, coffee, a camping coffee machine and possibly coffee filters are also absolute must-haves when travelling. Make sure you have enough to drink when you set off with your campervan.
5. Campsite reservation and travel planning
Do you already have a rough plan of the route you want to take with your motorhome? Then it’s best to think about your stops before you set off. Think about where you would like to stop, for example to visit sights or do certain activities. You may also want to stay in a certain place for a longer period of time. If you need a campsite for the first few nights, it also makes sense to make a reservation before your holiday. Many campsites and pitches book up quickly, especially during the holiday season or high season.
6. Safety and emergency preparation
Also remember to check your emergency equipment thoroughly before setting off and make sure that it is still in good condition. For example, the spare tyre should not be flat and the first aid kit should be fully stocked.
A comprehensive checklist for your motorhome holiday is the key to a well-planned and stress-free trip. Once you have ticked off all the points, you can be sure that you are well prepared for your camping adventure and can enjoy your holiday to the full.
